Step
1: Create text for your manuscript in a word processing program
(such as MSWord, Corel Word Perfect, or Sun's StarOffice).
Note
if you have a table within your text be sure to use the
Insert Table function instead of using tabs and spaces.
Try
to avoid using unusual fonts.
We recommend these common fonts:
- Times
New Roman
- Arial
- Verdana
- Symbol
Try
to avoid fonts that begin with WP, as they have restricted
licenses.
Step
2: Import figures into your file..
There
are many ways to put your figures into this file. You might
have to experiment to see which gives you the most satisfactory
images.
The
most commonly used methods are:
- Choose
Insert, Picture, From File.
This
will allow you to import a variety of image type files,
including .JPG, and .TIF. The result should be your image
on that blank page. Then move to the bottom of that image,
insert a page break, then repeat the Import process for
other figures.
- Open
the image in its original format, choose Edit,
Select All, Edit, Copy, then
move to the blank page, and Edit,
Paste (copy-and-paste).
- Create
a PDF of each figure by using the File,
Print, PDF Writer command,
then combine at a later point. You must own PDF
Writer software to choose this method.
Be
sure that each image is clearly labeled (e.g. Figure 1, Figure
2a).
Save
this file with the figures embedded.
